Models such as the Social Ecological Model (SEM) are used to inform intervention development, implementation and evaluation. We know that effective interventions need to target multiple levels of influence. Many different approaches have been used to increase physical activity among different people in various contexts. These can be characterised as individual approaches & population approaches to increasing levels of physical activity. Below are a few of the TV campaigns used throughout the 1980's and 1990's. These are examples of mass media which is a population approach to promote physical activity.
